The Project

Preserving and Sharing Family History through Food

The Open Recipe Box was born out of an academic exploration of public history. Intended to be a collaborative space where history can be honored, shared, and crafted, the Open Recipe Box combines aspects of blogging and social media. This project aims to bridge a gap between academic food studies and personal family histories. We invite you to explore and contribute to the growing archive of recipes.

A Collaborative History

The Open Recipe Box connects relatives, friends, and fellow platform users through recipes and commentary. Use this platform as a digital repository for family recipes that can be shared amongst relatives or a way to explore the histories and food of others. A curated blog section provides contextual information about the history of cookbooks, recipes, and the role of food in family history.  Learn more about the mission and origin of this project by clicking the button below.
